AVANT-GARDE x THE CANDY STORE

Posted by Avant-Garde Online

This past Friday was a big day for streetwear in the UK, and for Birmingham especially, as the doors of the brand new Candy Store opened to the public for the first time. The new retail spot has been in the works for a while now, but on Friday at around 10:30am, months of hard graft and preparation finally came together in what looks to be an excellent new store.

The man behind the store is Brum’s own Jay Read, who you may already know from his Jilted Royalty brand. Jay and his team have brought together the most established names in streetwear, together with some lesser known, in a new location, bringing a fresh breath of air to the city’s streetwear scene. The Avant-garde team was on hand to check it all out, after getting through a line that started around 8:30am, and eventually faded out around 2pm, and stepping across the gargantuan welcome mat…

The walls and windows were stacked with product – a well thought out space with plenty of room and space to chill. Neon tubing lines the windows, matching a black/white/purple colour scheme that runs throughout, and there are plenty of special pieces decorating the space too, including custom bikes, individually framed art pieces, and the custom comic book counter.

I’m hugely impressed with what the new Candy Store team have put together, and the store is even better than I could have expected. I think it’s going to be a real good thing for Birmingham and it’s scene, and I’m really looking forward to what’s to come. Check out the pictures below & be sure to check out The Candy Store on your next trip to the second city.
